The NetJets Climate Initiative
NetJets and Marquis Jet are committed to reducing their environmental impact. As part of this commitment, NetJets has established an ambitious carbon offset program that enables Owners to mitigate the unavoidable impacts of flying today. The NetJets Climate Initiative is a multifaceted approach to addressing climate change and other environmental challenges. This initiative is the beginning of an effort that NetJets and Marquis Jet believe will make a real difference, and it is an opportunity for Marquis Jet Card Owners to get involved personally by offsetting the emissions from their NetJets flights through an optional carbon offset program.
The NetJets Climate Initiative is comprised of four core elements:
Improving Energy Efficiency and Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions
- NetJets has set a goal to reduce carbon emissions by 10% by the end of 2009
- Director of Environmental Management positions have been established, and will report to the Office of the Chairman in both the U.S. and Europe. They will manage, monitor and report regularly on the NetJets' progress and ongoing challenges, and help identify additional measures that can be taken
Driving Technological Transformation
- NetJets is investing in cutting-edge research to identify more environmentally-friendly aviation technologies
- NetJets is sponsoring The Next Generation Jet Fuel Project at Princeton University with the University of California, Davis to develop an ultra-low emission jet fuel
Offsetting Unavoidable Impact
- NetJets is investing in a set of carefully-reviewed and closely-monitored carbon offset projects that will provide verified greenhouse gas reductions
- These projects will offset fully the carbon footprint of NetJets' internal operations and will be available to NetJets Fractional Aircraft and Marquis Jet Card Owners to voluntarily offset the emissions of their NetJets flight
Leveraging World-Class Expertise
- To ensure NetJets is and remains at the forefront of climate issues, NetJets established both U.S. and European advisory boards
- Each board consists of environmental experts who will help apply best-in-class practices and provide guidance during this initiative
Leading by Example
NetJets will offset 100% of the carbon emissions from the company’s internal operations, including from the operating centers, headquarters, and other facilities across the country. In addition, all business travel by NetJets flight crews and other employees will be fully offset.
As a Marquis Jet Card Owner, you may choose to offset your NetJets flights. NetJets is investing in the exact same projects at the exact same prices that are being offered to NetJets and Marquis Jet Card Owners. Neither NetJets nor Marquis Jet will make any profit from Card Owner offset purchases – the program is provided as a service to interested NetJets and Marquis Jet Card Owners. David Sokol, Chairman and CEO of NetJets Inc., and Ken Dichter, Founder and CEO of Marquis Jet Partners, were among the first to purchase offsets through the NetJets U.S. Carbon Offset Program for their personal NetJets flights.
How the Program Works
- Marquis Jet Card Owners who are interested in offsetting the carbon emissions from their NetJets flights can purchase carbon offsets based on the aircraft type(s) of the Jet Card(s) they own
- The program is completely voluntary, and may be begun or discontinued at any time
- To keep the program simple, we will not adjust the rate if you choose to fly a different aircraft type for a particular trip
- The carbon offset price per 25-hours will be 100% invested in a portfolio of projects selected by NetJets
- If you choose to participate in the program, you will be billed upon enrollment based on the published 25-hour rate for your aircraft type(s).
